Youtube Portfolio Presentation 1

18 November 2009 No Comment

I put together a small video, generally for video editing I use Adobe Premier Elements, but I’ve found that for small presentations for your graphic design work you can in fact get away with putting these together in a few short minutes in Windows Movie Maker and that you can in fact export them in HD Quality! I decided to post this video on Youtube for some exposure and experiment to see how people respond to it and if it results in any traffic from Youtube to my site. I will actually be doing a various experiments with expanding the social media range of the site and I will be sure to let you know how it works out.

Portfolio Video 1

Choosing pieces for a video portfolio presentation- This wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, looking through most of the art in my portfolio I decided to use nearly all of it. Though I will say that I feel the wider pieces work best, I didn’t want to rule out the taller ones and made them work through effects and transitions, panning and zooming mostly.

Timing and Durations- After playing around with it I decided to use the windows movie maker default settings for this video which would give each clip a duration of 5 seconds and each transition a duration of 1.25 seconds. The reason for this was that as I looked at it that worked best for giving the viewer enough time to look at the image while not getting bored. I also wanted to create the possibility of them feeling like they wanted a slightly longer look at the each one so they would re-watch the video looking for something they missed.

Choosing music- When choosing the music I wanted to choose something that would appeal to a broad audience, be pleasant, have a great energy but not distract them from the artwork to focus on the music and its lyrics. Picking Rock, Rap, or Hip Hop outright would be far too limiting and people may stop watching just because of the choice in music. I also didn’t want to pick something current or popular, though one would argue that I could increase views that way, I feel it would result in people not watching most of the video once they realize what is going on. Fefe Dobson’s Take Me Away, seemed like an ideal choice to reach a balanced audience while balancing the video.
