Back in the 90′s Sprite demonstrated a particular stroke of marketing genius in the development of a series of commercials, one that particularly stands out is the Voltron Sprite Hip Hop commercials.

Thinking about it one has to wonder what made this particular series of commercials so successful and appealing. Let’s break that down, Voltron was a cult classic with a generation of viewers from the early 80′s and had even been revived for younger generations and had a huge following on its own.

Add to this the growing interest in the 90s of Japanese cartoons a.k.a Anime. Combine that with the fact the commercials also featured known hip hop artist such as Common, Fat Joe, Red Man etc. and you have a large and diverse demographic that you are reaching out to. You have a group that spans generations and cultural groups.
